According to national standards, low carbon steel wire, also known as ordinary iron wire or soft steel wire, is defined by a carbon content of no more than 0.25%, with a conventional range of 0.06%-0.25%. Different from medium and high carbon steel wire, its ultra-low carbon content endows it with excellent plastic deformation capacity, getting rid of the high hardness and low toughness of high-carbon steel materials.

In terms of production technology, low carbon steel wire is refined from hot-rolled low-carbon steel coils through multi-pass cold drawing, diameter reduction, annealing conditioning and surface treatment. By accurately controlling the drawing aperture and annealing temperature, the toughness and tensile strength of the wire are effectively optimized. The tensile strength of finished products is stably maintained at 350-650MPa, and the elongation after fracture reaches 15%-30%. It can withstand repeated 180° bending without cracks, suitable for secondary processing such as bending, stamping, weaving and welding. Meanwhile, finished products can be anti-corrosion treated by electro-galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing and plastic coating to significantly improve rust resistance and service life.

Classified by surface state, low carbon steel wire is divided into bright steel wire and galvanized steel wire; by delivery process, it includes cold-drawn type and annealed type. Cold-drawn wire has higher hardness and strength, suitable for simple binding and nail making; annealed wire is softer and tougher, ideal for fine weaving and precision welding, meeting differentiated demands of various industries.
Benefiting from high cost performance, easy processing and wide adaptability, low carbon steel wire covers a full range of application scenarios. In construction, it is mainly used for steel bar binding, wall reinforcement and construction binding; in hardware manufacturing, it is applied to iron nail production, hardware accessories and welded mesh panels; in the wire mesh industry, it is woven into protective nets, screens, gabion nets and breeding fences. It is also widely used in agricultural construction, communication cable binding and daily necessities processing, ranking as the most consumed steel wire product in industrial production and infrastructure engineering.
Industry insiders said that with the continuous upgrading of infrastructure, rural construction and hardware manufacturing, the market demand for low carbon steel wire will maintain steady growth. In the future, the industry will continuously optimize production processes, improve the anti-corrosion performance, dimensional accuracy and surface finish of products, and promote the upgrading of low carbon steel wire towards refinement, anti-corrosion and specialization, so as to better adapt to the development needs of high-end manufacturing and green infrastructure.
