China's auto production and sales exceeded 30 million units for the first time in 2023, both hitting a record high, according to data released recently by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Specifically, the automobile production reached 30.161 million, and the sales volume reached 30.94 million, an increase of 11.6% and 12% respectively. The production and sales volume of new energy vehicles reached 9.587 million and 9.495 million, up 35.8% and 37.9%, respectively. At the same time, China's automobile exports hit a new high. Data show that in 2023, China's automobile exports of 4.91 million, an increase of 57.9%, the contribution rate of total automobile sales growth reached 55.7%. Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, analyzed that the overall market sales in 2023 showed the characteristics of "low open high and gradually improving". Since November 2023, the market has continued its good development trend, superimposed the momentum of car enterprises at the end of the year, and the good trend of the automobile market has exceeded expectations. It is expected that in 2024, the automobile market will continue to maintain a stable and good development trend. China's total auto sales will exceed 31 million units, an increase of more than 3%. 11.5 million new energy vehicles were sold and 5.5 million were exported.
At present, China's automobiles have been exported to more than 200 countries and regions around the world, becoming an important force driving the growth of automobile production and sales. "It took 55 years for the number of Chinese automobile exports to go from 1 to 1 million, breaking through 2 million in 2021, and achieving 4.91 million in 2023, close to 5 million, marking the remarkable achievement of China's automobile industry in the transformation to electrification and intelligence, and accelerating the transformation process of the global automobile industry." Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president and secretary general of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said with emotion. In addition, new energy vehicles have become an important growth point of China's automobile industry, and production and sales have ranked first in the world for nine consecutive years. In the fourth quarter of 2023, the global sales of pure electric vehicles of China's own brand BYD surpassed Tesla to become the world's first. At the same time, BYD's cumulative sales of new energy vehicles in 2023 exceeded 3.02 million, continuing to maintain the global champion in new energy vehicle sales.
