Tempering of Steel Wires
The already hardened steel is reheated to a certain temperature and then cooled in a certain way called tempering. Its purpose is to eliminate the internal stress produced by quenching, reduce the hardness and brittleness, in order to obtain the expected mechanical properties. There are three types of tempering: high temperature tempering, medium temperature tempering and low temperature tempering. Tempering is used in combination with quenching and normalizing.
⑴ Tempering treatment: The heat treatment method of high temperature tempering after quenching is called tempering treatment. High temperature tempering refers to tempering between 500 and 650℃. Tempering can make the performance of steel, material can be greatly adjusted, its strength, plasticity and toughness are good, has a good comprehensive mechanical properties.
(2) Aging treatment: in order to eliminate precision measuring tools or molds, parts in the long-term use of size, shape changes, often in low temperature tempering (low temperature tempering temperature 150-250℃) before finishing, the workpiece reheating to 100-150℃, maintain 5-20 hours, this is a stable quality of precision parts processing, known as aging. In order to eliminate residual stress and stabilize steel structure and size, it is very important to age steel members under low temperature or dynamic load conditions.
