There are many things that need to be paid attention to when building a steel structure loft. Before construction, it is best to find a professional loft company to design the design plan of the loft steel structure to ensure safety during the construction process. Below, I will briefly introduce the precautions for building a mezzanine steel structure for your reference.
First, consider whether the floor height of the room is sufficient. The lower edge of the new attic floor of a duplex house should be level with the lower edge of the original floor slab on the first floor, and the lower edge of the single-storey attic floor should be no less than 2.6 meters. The inner clear height of the attic floor and roof shall not be less than 2.4 meters, and the minimum shall not be less than 2.2 meters. This is based on the premise that there are people living in it. If your attic is not occupied by people, then you can decide the height at will.
Secondly, the span of the shortest two sides of the attic should not be too large. When using channel steel for construction, it should generally not exceed 4 meters, and the maximum should not exceed 6 meters.
When purchasing steel, try to choose national standard steel. Because its steel quality and specifications are superior to non-standard steel. Non-standard steel has high hardness, brittle steel, poor ductility, and is difficult to cut and drill. In addition, the use of hollow steel such as square steel and pipe steel is not recommended because it is difficult to apply anti-rust paint on the inside of the steel. Due to changes in cold and heat in the north, water condensation and rust on the steel will contaminate the ceiling and walls, seriously endangering safety.
Before fixing the channel steel, the side of the channel steel against the wall should be painted with anti-rust paint. But other parts should be painted after welding is completed, otherwise the welding work will be affected. At the same time, the I-beam and channel steel must be of the same specifications, and the main keel should be made of solid steel, and intermediate welding is strictly prohibited.
In the connection part, the two commonly used bolts are "expansion bolts" and "chemical bolts". They have different characteristics, each with advantages and disadvantages. Expansion bolts are physical connections that rely on iron sheets to rise to support the interior walls (beams) for fixation, and are relatively intolerant to vibrations. Chemical bolts rely on the chemical reaction between chemicals and concrete to solidify the bolts. Although it is stronger, it has a fatal weakness and is not resistant to high temperatures, so it must be selected and used after the welding work is completed. It is best to use extended expansion screws.
Finally, protective measures must be taken before construction. Use the "three-piece set" – gloves, glasses, and mask. In addition, the larger the steel, the better. The issue of self-weight must be considered. Optimize as much as possible from aspects such as design, technology, and materials to ensure the safety and reliability of the attic structure.
