Introduction

10B21 wire rod is a high-quality low-carbon alloy steel wire in SAE J 403 of the United States standard. According to the domestic Baosteel standard, its chemical composition is shown in the following table:

Adding a trace amount of boron can significantly improve the hardenability of steel, at this time has no effect on other properties or the effect is very small.
This can replace Ni, Cr and Mo to a certain extent, and B is dissolved in solid solution, the lattice becomes larger, so that the strength is improved. Boron in grain boundaries has the effect of preventing recrystallization diffusion, and can increase the thermal strength of steel.
C element, as the main element determining mechanical properties, the strength of C element increases with the increase of C content, but the cold heading performance decreases.
Si, can improve the strength and hardness of steel, reduce its plasticity and toughness. The cold heading property of cold heading steel decreases with the increase of silicon content.
10B21, in the chemical composition system, the C content is 0.18%~0.23%, the Si content is below 0.10%. Can have: low hardness, good plasticity, easy to deformation and other characteristics.
Mn plays the role of solid solution strengthening in steel. For cold heading steel, high Mn content will greatly improve the strength of steel, which is not conducive to cold forming of steel. The Mn content of 10B21 is below 1.00%; Suitable Mn content can not only improve the morphology and distribution of steel, but also improve the cold formability of steel.
Through the above analysis, 10B21 by adding B element, improve hardenability, has a good heat treatment effect, at the same time, taking into account the cold heading and weldability of low carbon steel, so 10B21 can be widely used in the production of 8.8/9.8 bolts, nuts and welding parts and other fasteners.
